Extension Lecture by Prof. Idrisa Pandit on “Justice, Feminine and the Quran”
Markaz-i Noor, Centre for Shaikh-ulAalam Studies, University of Kashmir, Srinagar organised an extension lecture titled “Justice, Feminine and the Quran” delivered by Prof. Idrisa Pandit, (Associate Faculty at Luther University College, Wilfrid Laurier University, Canada) on 09-09-2021. The function was presided over by Prof. Mohammad Ashraf Wani, formerly Dean Academic Affairs & Professor of History, University of Kashmir.
Prof. G.N. Khaki, Chairman Markaz-i Noor, Centre for Shaikh-ul Aalam Studies welcomed the guest speaker and enlightened the audience on the objectives of the Centre while emphasising its commitment to disseminate the message of Hazarat Shaikh-ul Aalam(RA), the great Sufi saint of Kashmir.
Prof. Idrisa Pandit, in her thought provoking lecture invoked the stories of women in the Quran to explicate lessons from these stories, and their possibilities in helping shape our ongoing struggle of reclaiming the Quranic principles of justice, especially in enabling suppressed gender histories. The spirit of the lecture was in tune with the teachings of Shaikh-ul Aalam who advocated the idea of Quranic justice to reform Kashmiri society.
Professor Ashraf Wani, in his address as the Chair, appreciated the contents of the lecture while reminding the audience, particularly the students, to stand committed to academics, research and advocacy.
The lecture was attended by prominent academicians, faculty members and scholars of the University. A substantial number of participants also joined the lecture through online mode as well.
